Business Edge Ltd is a small and dynamic, technically oriented company within the air conditioning and refrigeration industry. Formed in 1990, the company is privately owned and specialises in the provision of technology training and certification (ConstructionSkills and City & Guilds), design consultancy, troubleshooting, sale of specialised products and technology development work. The company has continually grown over the last 27 years.

AC&R Performance Analyser  We sell a refrigeration and air conditioning Performance Analyser throughout the UK, a unique product that is virtually a portable test laboratory, enabling both simple and complex AC&R systems to be fully analysed. Improvements to system performance and reduction in energy consumption are then possible. The technology can also be permanently installed and features remote communications capability and continual logging of system performance, coupled with early warning of impending problems/failure. This technology is being adopted by major end users and clients include Tesco, Sainsbury, Virgin Media and end-users with large data centres and so on. We anticipate substantial future sales growth.

Accordingly, it is now essential to increase our ability to handle the increasing number of enquiries and to execute orders precisely and efficiently, whilst providing competent technical support.

There is also the opportunity to conduct fieldwork involving the use of this technology where we assist contractors in troubleshooting. There is also the need to provide technical training to customers, both here at HQ and in the field. Where permanent installations are concerned, technical assistance is often required and installation opportunities often arise.

System Flushing Technology We sell a very advanced Flushing Technology for the cleansing of corrupted refrigeration systems. In addition to selling the machinery, we are often required to provide a cleansing/washing service for clients and this requires competent air conditioning and refrigeration skills and knowledge. This fieldwork requires our engineers to work in all kinds of weather, in different locations across the UK, and involves movement of the Flushing machine (80kg – on wheels!), Refrigerant cylinders and associated tools/equipment. Consequently, our refrigeration engineering personnel must be able-bodied with a positive attitude toward safe working.

Consultancy & Troubleshooting Work The company is also involved in a wide range of consultancy and troubleshooting work, some of this involving field work, use of the Performance Analyser and our Flushing Technology, investigative work, use of schematic drawings, electrical drawings, evaluation of system running conditions using the recorded data, preparation of reports, use of Excel, use of PCs/iPad, calculations and so on. This work also requires the occasional connection to single phase and three-phase electrical systems and some familiarity with this area is desirable.

Research & Development Work The company is extensively involved in technical development work, some of this related to rotating machinery, utilisation of power inverters, electronic control systems, refrigeration circuits and so on. This work provides the opportunity for a candidate with reasonable academic / engineering knowledge, where an understanding of mechanics and practical skills where machinery are concerned would be an advantage.

Consequently, the successful applicant should have a reasonable background and experience in related fields involving either mechanical engineering experience, electrical experience or hopefully some air conditioning and refrigeration related experience. This need not be to a high level, but such basic experience would be a distinct advantage. You should have a fundamental grasp of basic mathematics and a reasonable standard of spoken and written English. You should be personable and well presented, when required, whilst also being prepared to wear extensive safety gear, when necessary.

Reporting to the Managing Director and senior engineering staff the successful applicant will enjoy a busy and rewarding career within an industry that is highly technical and interesting. Full training will be provided and indeed the company is also able to extend this beyond the requirements of this position.

The company runs a well-established Technology Training Division and we are therefore able to provide you with all the necessary Training and Certification in the essential disciplines such as refrigerant safe handling, brazing, electrical competency, air conditioning and refrigeration technology, etc.

This position is generally office-based, with a friendly, relaxed but efficient environment. The post requires UK and occasionally overseas travel by car, train or by air and you must hold a valid Driving License and Passport.

Location: Waterlooville-Hampshire-based. 08:30-17:00. 1 Hour Lunch. Working beyond normal hours is occasionally required, sometimes for 2 – 4 nights in a given week.

Salary – according to Skill Level and Experience.  The salary will increase rapidly, but only following demonstrable abilities and performance.

Office hours are 08:30-17:00 with 20 days allocation for annual holiday. Remuneration according to initial experience with subsequent salary increases according to performance.

The company also operates an Annual Discretionary Bonus Scheme.
