Big Foot in Australian Parliament

Parliament House Australia PRUK-based plant support specialist Big Foot Systems recently came to the rescue of the South Australian Parliament when leaks from the flat roof of the Parliament building threatened to damage this local Adelaide city centre landmark.

When the flat roof of this much loved building failed, leaking water, it was found that its existing supports for its rooftop condensing units were decaying and a quick solution needed to protect the building from further damage.

M&E contractor, Westside Mechanical therefore asked roofing specialist HVAC Roof Supports to provide a solution that could to support the essential heavy roof-mounted hvac kit. To fix the problem a new concrete slab was laid on the roof and HVAC Roof Supports supplied three Big Foot Systems non-penetrative support frames. Two frames measured 4.5m in length, providing point loadings of 10.5 kN/m² and one frame was 5.5m in length providing point loadings of 11.61 kN/m².

As well as being simple to assemble and install, being non-penetrative the Big Foot System would remove the risk of further leaks through expensive roof penetrations.

Joe Larosa, project manager at Westside Mechanical, explains: “The Big Foot roof supports were terrific. They were easy to install and came with all the relevant technical data and assembling instructions. The frames themselves are adjustable so it is easy to fit different size condensers on the same frame without any trouble.”
