Five arrested in $23k refrigerant theft

Photo: Rialto Police Department

USA: Police in California have arrested six people for the theft of 50 cylinders of refrigerant from a leading automotive replacement parts and accessories distributor.

According to the Rialto Police Department in San Bernardino County, the theft from AutoZone is alleged to have been carried out by five AutoZone employees, and one former employee. They are aged from 19-24.

The theft is said to have involved the creation of fraudulent company paperwork which was then taken to another AutoZone in the nearby City of Riverside where they successfully tricked the Riverside employees to release the refrigerant.

The refrigerant, valued at $23,510.00, included R134a and R1234yf.
