Course teaches air distribution basics

UK: Construction personnel have the opportunity to better understand how air distribution works in buildings at a free-to-attend training course next month.

The Basics of Air Distribution course takes place on Wednesday July 19 at the Aylesford, Kent headquarters of air terminal devices manufacturer Waterloo Air Products.

It is free to attend, and open to architects, specifiers, contractors, consultants and others involved in the construction industry.

“Getting the air distribution right is key to creating a successful building. The Waterloo team has a fantastic amount of expertise and we want to share this knowledge to help individuals and companies get the best out of the projects they’re working on,” said Waterloo chairman Rick Edmondson.

“Our trainers are members of the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) and have over 60 years’ experience combined. The course is designed to be informative and engaging, with lots of hands-on testing.”

The course will introduces the key science used in HVAC applications, looking at how aerodynamics, temperature and acoustics affect the distribution of air. It will explain how to select the best air terminal devices for each project by providing an understanding of the differences between grilles, diffusers and louvres.

Those attending the course will then learn more about supplying air to a building, and how air terminal devices are integrated with Air Handling Units (AHUs) and Variable Air Volume (VAV) technology to create a full HVAC system.

“Throughout the day, the trainers will mix theory with practical demonstrations so everyone can see first-hand how air distribution works.  They can explore how air is supplied through a Waterloo grille, see a VAV in operation and try out control software.
