14 tonnes of R134a recovered in 5 days

UK: A-Gas Rapid Recovery recently recovered 14 tonnes of R134a refrigerant from a major UK pharmaceutical facility in just five days.

In one of the largest operations of its kind, the A-Gas team of four experienced engineers carried out the recovery process to allow the safe decommissioning of storage vessels and associated pipework at the site in Liverpool.

Working alongside a leading engineering and construction firm specialising in complex pharmaceutical and healthcare projects, the A-Gas’ bespoke Rapid Recovery system ensured complete containment and transfer of the refrigerant into an ISO tank.

“Projects of this scale highlight the critical importance of specialised recovery expertise. Our process guarantees speed, safety, and zero emissions — all while supporting our clients’ wider sustainability goals,” said A-Gas Rapid Recovery operations manager Jake Matthews

The R134a refrigerant, totalling over 20,000MtCO2e, was recovered with no impact on adjacent site operations. It enabled the client to proceed with the timely and safe decommissioning of its storage tank infrastructure, while mitigating environmental and compliance risks.
