Carel controller improves performance

ITALY: Carel’s iJF controller has helped Studio54, an Italian manufacturer of stainless steel refrigerated units, to achieve a 43% reduction in energy consumption on its latest product line.

The energy savings achieved by the new R290 freezer cabinet, which included a number of technical improvements in addition to the inclusion of the Carel control, were confirmed in climate chamber tests.

The aim of the tests was to measure the energy savings achieved when using the iJF with frequency-controlled VCC inverter technology compared against the previous fixed-speed compressor control solution.

Specifically, the modulating control of the compressor alone enabled a 26% saving, equivalent to 1.5kWh every 24 hours, by optimising operation according to actual conditions.

The remaining benefits resulted from design and construction enhancements implemented by Studio54. This combined approach also led to an improvement in the unit’s energy label, with a two-class upgrade from D to B, and ensured greater internal temperature stability, with maximum fluctuations kept within 0.5°C of the setpoint.
