Keeping cool at highest restaurant

UK: Cold room equipment supplied by Dean & Wood has been installed at the UK’s highest restaurant in the Cairngorm mountains.

The equipment for the Ptarmigan restaurant in the Cairngorm Mountain Ski Resort, comprising a Danfoss Optyma condensing unit and LuVe evaporator, was installed and commissioned by local contractor Elgin Refrigeration.

At 1,097m, the Ptarmigan restaurant is located at the Top Station of Cairngorm Mountain railway

Open all year, the Ptarmigan restaurant, at 1,097m, boasts panoramic views down to Loch Morlich and across to Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the British Isles, and Ben Hope.

Reliable equipment was essential for this remote tourist attraction and Elgin Refrigeration selected the combination of a Danfoss Optyma Slim model LSHM074, and a LuVe F30HC evaporator. The equipment was sourced from the Glasgow branch of Dean & Wood.

As well as offering high performance and reliability, the Optyma Slim’s corrosion resistant, galvanised and painted housing and aluminium micro channel heat exchanger will provide extra protection in the harsh environment.

Danfoss claims that the compact and light Optyma Slim range is also currently the lightest solution on the market, weighing from 15-60 kg less than alternative outdoor condensing units – a bonus for engineer’s having to transport it to the top of a mountain.
