Soteck Clauger alliance creates R1233zd heat pump
16th June 2024CANADA: Soteck Clauger has developed a high temperature heat pump using the HFO refrigerant R1233zd for a food processing application.
The heat pump was designed to meet the specific needs of an industrial cheese factory in Quebec. Being capable of producing water at temperatures up to over 85ºC makes it suitable for the dairy industry for processes such as pasteurisation.
“This innovation allows us to pasteurise without a chimney, it reflects our vision of a greener future,” said Soteck Clauger general manager David Perreault. “By allowing companies to significantly reduce their operational costs while minimising their ecological impact, the R1233zd is a real game-changer for industry when ammonia cannot be considered.”
An A1 non-flammable HFO refrigerant with a GWP of 1, R1233zd has previously been adopted in chillers produced by the likes of Trane, Carrier, Johnson Controls York and MHI.
Soteck Clauger is the result of a transatlantic strategic refrigeration alliance established in 2019 between French company Clauger and Canadian company Soteck. The alliance has enabled the companies to expand its services through knowledge sharing, experience and resources.
On this project, the collaboration between teams made it possible to overcome significant challenges, such as adapting the design to Canadian standards and integrating technologies to maximise space and operational efficiency. The project is also said to have benefited from cutting-edge technological support, with co-design sessions and continuous exchanges between the Canadian and French sites, ensuring optimal performance of the installed system.
Soteck Clauger is already considering new initiatives to expand the application of this technology to other areas requiring high-temperature heating solutions.
Providing air treatment and industrial refrigeration technology for the food industry, Clauger was established in 1971, with headquarters in Brignais, near Lyon. It currently operates 16 production workshops worldwide.
Formed in 1993, Soteck is seen as expert in the agri-food sector, offering innovative solutions for a controlled environment. The company is based in Victoriaville in south-central Quebec.
