Carrier adds 515B on AquaEdge 19MV chiller

USA: Carrier has added the availability of the lower GWP 515B refrigerant in its AquaEdge 19MV oil-free water-cooled chiller.

When introduced in December 2021, the AquaEdge 19MV has previously been available with R134a or R513A, an A1 non-flammable refrigerant with a GWP of 631. The new R515B refrigerant reduces the GWP to 293, while retaining the benefits of being an A1 non-flammable gas.

With capacity from 300 to 700 tons (1,055kW-2,461kW), the AquaEdge 19MV employs Carrier’s EquiDrive two-stage, back-to-back compressor technology with magnetic bearings. This compression and drive train technology is said to provide expanded operating range while improving chiller energy efficiency and building resiliency.

It is said to be capable of maintaining performance in severe, extreme and unexpected operational and weather conditions. Select units provide balanced performance that is up to 10% better than ASHRAE 90.1 2019 path B at both full and part loads, says Carrier. Combined with low-lift operation, quick restart times and low noise levels, the AquaEdge19MV is said to be particularly suited for 24/7 applications such as hospitals and data centres.
