Sensata launches UL-certified A2L leak detector

UK: The Resonix RGD sensor from Sensata Technologies is said to be the first UL-certified leak detection sensor for multiple flammable A2L refrigerants.

Certified for the use of R454A, R454B, R454C and R32 under the 4th edition of UL 60335-2-40, the Sensata Resonix RGD detects the presence of A2L refrigerant gases by monitoring the acoustic resonance of the surrounding air.

Typically mounted near the evaporator coil, the sensors can trigger mitigation, such as a fan, when A2L gas is detected – venting it before it reaches unsafe levels.

The sensors are said to deliver a fast response time and have a life expectancy of more than 15 years.

Because the sensors do not require field calibration or re-zeroing, they reduce service costs for both installers and end users. They are also said to be unaffected by fouling gases, HVAC cleaning solutions, and continuous refrigerant exposure.
