Gustav Lorentzen Conference to return to UK

Dr Andy Pearson presenting at the 2026 Gustav Lorentzen Conference in New Zealand last week

UK: The UK will once again host the Gustav Lorentzen Conference – international forum for “natural” refrigerant research and development in 2028.

The biennial conference has visited the UK twice before – in Glasgow in 2004 and at Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh in 2016 – and will now be held in Bristol from 13-16 August 2028.

This conference will explore what the future of refrigeration using “natural” working fluids should look like from 2028 and beyond.

The programme will showcase the latest developments, applications and future trends, while exploring new and innovative opportunities across heat recovery, heat pumps, chillers, process cooling and heat engines, as well as their interaction with more sustainable low-carbon energy sources.

Bristol was confirmed as the host of the 2028 by Star Refrigeration Group MD Dr Andy Pearson at the closing ceremony of this year’s event in Hamilton, New Zealand, last week.

Dr Pearson said: “It was a privilege to represent the Institute of Refrigeration at the handover in New Zealand, and I look forward to welcoming colleagues from across the international refrigeration community to Bristol. The Gustav Lorentzen Conference is where the sector’s thinking on natural refrigerants is set, so bringing it to the UK is a significant moment for our industry.”

Further details of the 2028 event will be revealed later.
