Dr Hywel Davies awarded OBE

UK: Dr Hywel Davies, the head of technical insight at the Chartered Association of Building Engineers, has been awarded the OBE in the new year honours list.

Davies began his near 40-year career in the construction industry at the Building Research Establishment (BRE). After 10 years at the BRE and 10 years as an independent consultant, he joined the Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers (CIBSE) as technical director in 2007. He received an honorary fellowship in 2023 in recognition of his contribution to CIBSE and to the wider industry.

Davies has been active in British Standards development for 35 years, working on building legislation, standards and industry guidance. He headed up the expert group responsible for reviewing the use and structure of approved documents following the Grenfell Tower tragedy and advised on CIBSE’s Covid-19 pandemic response. He is a former chair of the Building Regulations Advisory Committee and member of the Health and Safety Executive’s Building Advisory Committee.

Davies left CIBSE last year, taking up head of technical insight role at the Chartered Association of Building Engineers.
