Heat pump grant applications hit record high

UK: Thousands of households on heating oil in England and Wales are reported to be making the switch to a heat pump using the £9,000 Boiler Upgrade Scheme grant.
Figures for July, released by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, report a record 8,150 grant applications in July – an 81% increase compared to June, and an increase of 112% compared to July 2025.
The government announced the 20% BUS grant increase from £7,500 to £9,000 in June to help rural households make the move from heating oil to a heat pump. The increase, which only became active on July 21, attracted 3,037 applications – 37% of the total applications received that month.
