Six through to WorldSkills UK final

UK: Two apprentices attending Glasgow Kelvin College and two from training provider Total People are amongst the six competitors who have won through to the RACHP WorldSkills UK final.

The six were chosen from the 18 apprentices who took part in the semi-final heat during last month’s Installer Show at Birmingham’s NEC.

Glasgow Kelvin College attendees Kian Ferns of Technical Retail Services and Martin Oates of CPA Engineered Solutions, along with Total People apprentices Jacob Mclean of Setpoint22 and Kaya Yanik of Sparks Mechanical Services, are joined in the final by Cotswold Vale Refrigeration apprentice Alex Huggins of Bath College, and Trane UK’s James Burns of City of Portsmouth College.

There are also two reserves on standby: Prajwal Dulal, Royal Engineers, and Connor Gibson, College of North West London, J L Harrison.

The heats at the Installer Show were described as “an intense competition” which demonstrated “a massive improvement in the standard of work from previous years”.

The six will now go forward to the WorldSkills UK national finals in November.
