Star pays tribute to former MD and founder

UK: Star Refrigeration has paid tribute to co-founder Anthony Brown who died on June 2, aged 91.

Brown founded Star Refrigeration in 1970 with former L Sterne & Co colleagues Robert Campbell and Stephen Forbes Pearson. He held the position of managing director of Star until his retirement in 1997, but remained as a director and continued to serve as chairman until 2015.

Marking his death, a company statement said: “Those of you who knew Anthony will appreciate the influence that he had on the business and the wider community through his wit and wisdom, his boundless enthusiasm, his love of technology and new ideas and his care and compassion for those alongside him, whoever they were.

“He was responsible for many of the innovative ways in which Star was set up and which continue to apply to our working lives, including his strong focus on health and safety and his belief that all staff should be treated equally and fairly.”

Anthony Brown was also very supportive of the Institute of Refrigeration, serving many years in a behind-the-scenes role on the finance committee and more publicly as president of the Institute from 1992 to 1994.  He was also one of the founding members of the Institute’s Scottish branch, serving as branch chairman from 1988 to 1990 and receiving the Kooltech award in 1997.
