Steve Gill wins ASHRAE international award

UK: Steve Gill has won the John F James International Award for his efforts to enhance the ASHRAE’s international presence.

Gill, who is immediate past president of the Institute of Refrigeration, received his award during last weekend’s ASHRAE Winter Conference in Atlanta.

The John F James International Award recognises a member who has done the most to enhance the Society’s international presence.

Steve Gill, who runs his own Nottingham-based refrigeration consultancy, Stephen Gill Associates, was instrumental in forming the ASHRAE UK-Midlands Section in 2015, the first local ASHRAE chapter in the UK. During his time as its first president he organised the first ever joint meeting in the UK with the Institute of Refrigeration, CIBSE West Midlands, the Birmingham Society of Refrigeration and Air conditioning (BSRA) and the BEI (Birmingham Energy Institute).

In 2017, Steve Gill was invited to join ASHRAE’s refrigeration committee, which is responsible for promoting refrigeration education and development. During his IoR presidency he also signed a new MOU with ASHRAE to further enhance links between the two groups.

First presented in 1983 as the International Activities Award, the award became the John F James International Award in 1996 in honour of the late British building services engineer John James, an influential former fellow of both CIBSE and ASHRAE.
