Wolseley buys AC and heat pump distributor Logicool

UK: Wholesaler the Wolseley Group has acquired Derbyshire-based air conditioning and heat pump distributor Logicool.

Operating from a 16,000ft2 facility in Swadlincote, Logicool is a specialist distributor of Mitsubishi Electric, Panasonic and Hitachi brand equipment and ancillary products.

It was established in 2008 by Karl Richardson and wife Gill, who have grown the business from an initial investment of under £5,000 into a £11m turnover concern.

In a statement, Wolseley said that it saw the Logicool business enhancing Wolseley’s renewables offering to include a wider product range and training opportunities.

Commenting on the acquisition, Wolseley Group CEO Simon Gray said, “We are extremely proud to add Logicool to our portfolio of brands. This well-respected business will be a pivotal part of expanding our renewables by Wolseley offering to become a full end-to-end supplier, helping our customers on their energy efficiency journeys.”

Logicool will retain its brand identity following the take-over and will operate as usual with its staff and customers.

Karl Richardson commented, “Logicool is an ambitious business and over recent years we have invested significantly in enhancements such as increased stock of heat pumps and new state of the art premises. Our continued challenge is to provide the best possible service, invest in new talent within our apprenticeship programme, and be able to supply an increased array of products and services, all of which require additional infrastructure and investment. This acquisition allows access to resources that Logicool needs in order to achieve our goals in an ever-changing market.”

This is the third major AC distributor purchase made by Wolseley in recent years. In 2023 it acquired Kooltech, one of the UK’s largest air conditioning product distributors. In June of this year it acquired Yeovil-based Renewable Equipment Solutions (RES), a supplier of a complete range of renewable and energy-efficient technologies, including air-source, ground-source and air-to-air heat pumps.
