Arkema launches new R134a replacement

FRANCE: Arkema has announced the release of R516A, a new, lower GWP refrigerant replacement for R134a in HVAC and cooling applications.

Launched as Forane 516A, this new A2L refrigerant has a GWP of 131 with zero glide. It is a blend of 77.5% R1234yf, 14% R152a and 8.5% R134a.

The refrigerant is said to be designed for new installations, improving energy efficiency in many applications, including residential and light commercial cooling, chillers, and commercial refrigeration.

It is also seen by Arkema as an attractive option for thermal management applications, including data centre facility cooling systems, and high-temperature heat pumps.
