Basel LD outbreak is officially over
16th August 2026
SWITZERLAND: The legionnaires’ disease outbreak in Basel, which infected 28 people and claimed one life, has been declared over.
With no new cases for more than a week, the Swiss Department of Health has said that the outbreak can be considered over. It has also confirmed that the various samples taken from local cooling towers have confirmed the source of the infection.
Two cooling towers on the roof of the Manor department store headquarters on Rebgasse in Kleinbasel, Basel, were previously identified as the likely source of the outbreak.
One person remains hospitalised but does not require intensive care.
