Beijer Ref acquires Lithuanian manufacturer Refra

SWEDEN/LITHUANIA: Beijer Ref has signed an agreement to acquire 90% of the shares in Lithuanian refrigeration equipment manufacturer Refra.

Established in 1994 and headquartered in Vilnius, Lithuania, Refra has an annual turnover of approximately €45m. From its 12,000m2 factory in Vievis, Refra supplies equipment to Western and Southern Europe, the UK, the Middle East, the Mediterranean and Central Asia.

The company specialises in custom-engineered cooling and heating solutions using “natural” refrigerants such as CO2 and propane. Building on its heritage in CO₂ refrigeration, the company has evolved into a leading European provider of propane chillers and heat pumps.

The deal includes an option for Beijer Ref to acquire the remaining shares in the company. Beijer Ref has also confirmed that Refra will continue to operate under its own brand.

Beijer Ref COO EMEA Jonas Steen described the deal as “strategically important” for the company: “It will strengthen our OEM portfolio with proprietary technology for indirect cooling and heating systems using natural refrigerants, with particular expertise in hydrocarbon-based solutions, while also expanding our customer base in CO2-based refrigeration.”
