Bitzer expands presence in Africa

A team from Bitzer South Africa were in Lagos last week carrying our intensive training with the new staff

GERMANY/NIGERIA: Compressor manufacturer Bitzer is expanding its presence in Africa with the opening of an office in Lagos.

BITZER is convinced of the growth opportunities in West Africa and, for the first time, will be represented directly in Lagos, Africa’s largest city, with its own office from the beginning of 2017.

Today’s official opening was preceded by a week of training for the new staff, conducted by a team from Bitzer South Africa.

This latest office in West Africa follows the opening of an office in Senegal in February and an office in Nairobi, East Africa, in November last year.

“With its significant population and favourable location, Nigeria represents the ideal starting point from which to strengthen Bitzer’s presence in the West African market,” said Bernhard Blaeser, managing director of Bitzer South Africa. “We at Bitzer are convinced that Nigeria will undoubtedly be one of the most important markets in Africa, which is why we would like to increase our activities there.”

According to Bitzer, the middle class in Nigeria – Africa’s most populous country – is constantly growing and the economic output is the largest on the continent. With modern supermarkets opening all over Nigeria for the last five years, there’s currently a high demand for reliable, efficient compressors for food refrigeration.

In future, Bitzer says it will work more intensively with local representatives to improve the availability of its products. The compressor specialist also wants to build a large warehouse in Lagos to further shorten delivery times from the South Africa site.

In addition, the company is working on building a certified service centre, so that users have access to Bitzer services, including spare parts and maintenance.
