Carrier completes 10-14ton RTU challenge
14th September 2025
USA: Carrier has become the first manufacturer to complete the US Department of Energy’s Commercial Building HVAC Technology Challenge laboratory validation in the 10-14ton rooftop heat pump category.
The Carrier system met or exceeded all challenge requirements, including heating capacity and energy efficiency test standards – delivering 100% heating capacity at 5°F, exceeding 70% heating capacity at -10°F and meeting or surpassing DOE’s commercial HVAC efficiency thresholds.
The DOE’s Commercial Building HVAC Technology Challenge is designed to accelerate adoption of high-performance equipment that reduces energy use and operating costs while supporting grid reliability through lower demand. Carrier’s validated rooftop unit exceeded key efficiency and performance benchmarks in independent testing conducted by DOE, Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory.
Last week, Lennox completed the same DOE challenge climate challenge for roof-top units in the 15-25tons category.
