Daikin plans new Japanese plant

JAPAN: Daikin is reported to be investing up to $90m in a new commercial air conditioning plant in its homeland.

According to the Nikkei, Daikin will establish a manufacturing base for commercial air conditioners on the site of its current Rinkai factory in Sakai, Osaka.

The Rinkai facility, which is due to start operations in June, will become the core Daikin factory. Production will be transferred from Daikin’s Kanaoka plant, also in Sakai, which will then become the company’s main development base.

While Daikin has been expanding its global operations in recent years, this is said to be the first time in 27 years it has established a factory in Japan.
