Daikin revises AC recycling fees
27th December 2025
JAPAN: Daikin is to reduce its air conditioner recycling fees in Japan from February due to increased efficiency in processing at its recycling plants.
The current charge of JPY990 (≈€5) will be reduced to (≈€3) from February 1 under Japan’s Home Appliance Recycling Law.
Under the law, which came into effect in 2001, Japanese consumers pay the recycling fee and a collection/transport fee when getting rid of old appliances.
In fiscal year 2024 (April 1, 2024 to March 31, 2025), Daikin recycled 20,356 tonnes of material from 556,000 room air conditioners, representing a recycling rate of 91%.
This included 5,924 tonnes of iron, 1,570 tonnes of copper, 555 tonnes of aluminium, 8,247 tonnes of mixed non-ferrous and iron composite materials, 342 tonnes of fluorocarbons, and 3,716 tonnes of other valuable materials.
