Emicool supplies 60,000TR for Dubai Expo

DUBAI: Emirates District Cooling (Emicool) has won a contract to supply a 60,000TR district cooling system to the Expo Dubai 2020 event.

The district cooling plant will serve the Expo Village, Dubai South Mall and the new conference and exhibition centre at the Expo site.

Currently under fast track construction, the district cooling plant will include 48,000TR of mechanical chillers and 12,000 tonnes of thermal energy storage.

In addition to the conference and exhibition centre, the Expo Village and Dubai South Mall, the district cooling plant will also serve the Roads & Transport Authority Station and Project Star mall area. These are key elements in the Expo 2020 masterplan, and part of its legacy infrastructure beyond 2020.

The main site of Expo Dubai 2020, located midway between Dubai and Abu Dhabi, will cover 438 hectares (1083 acres). It opens on opening on October 20, 2020 and runs to April 10, 2021.

Emicool currently provides district cooling services to over 19,000 customers in the UAE and is planning to increase its plants capacity to 500,000TR by 2020 with strategic plans to transform many buildings in Dubai from conventional air-conditioning to district cooling.
