Firefighter dies in ammonia leak

ISRAEL:  A firefighter was killed and 20 people injured after an ammonia leak at a slaughterhouse in central Israel last night.

The leak of an estimated 8 tons of ammonia in the Hod Hefer meat processing plant at Emek Hefer industrial zone north of Netanya, forced the evacuation of over a hundred people from the surrounding area.

It is believed the leak occurred after a factory employee hit a pipe from the 60 ton storage tank during routine maintenance.
