Haier opens US$400m Thai factory
26th September 2025
THAILAND: Chinese air conditioning manufacturer Haier has officially opened its new US$400m factory in Chonburi, Thailand.
The first production phase of 3 million air conditioners per year commences this month, with the intention to expand this to 3.5 million units in 2026, and reach a peak of 6 million units, valued at approximately $1bn, by 2027.
This will make the factory one of the region’s largest air conditioner production bases. It is seen by Haier as a key strategic step to enhance its production and export capabilities to meet growing demand in ASEAN, the Middle East, and global markets. It also aims to establish a robust domestic supply chain, from parts production to final assembly, reducing import costs and increasing competitiveness. This development also aims to become a base for intelligent air conditioning innovation to meet the needs of modern consumers.
Haier’s second air conditioner manufacturing plant, located on over 324,000m2 of land in WHA Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate 3 (WHA ESIE 3) in Chonburi Province, employs technologies that reduce environmental impact and carbon footprint.
“This major investment not only reflects Haier’s confidence in the Thai economy but also reinforces its vision to elevate Thailand into a strategic manufacturing base for ASEAN, fully connecting the supply chain, manufacturing, research and development, and exporting to the global market,” commented Haier Group chairman Zhou Yunjie at the opening.
The company has set a goal for 2025, projecting home air conditioner sales of THB5.5bn (US$170m) and commercial air conditioners of THB1.108bn (US$34m).
According to Zhou Yunjie, the company aims to capture over 13% of the market share and become the world’s number one brand by sales.
“Furthermore, Haier has a long-term investment plan that extends beyond factory construction to the development of a fully integrated smart factory production system, utilising advanced automation and digital technology,” he added. “This will be coupled with the establishment of an innovation and R&D centre to enhance production efficiency and product quality.”
