Hunt is on for oldest R22 system

dupont-isceon-mo99SWITZERLAND: UK-based DuPont Refrigerant distributor IDS is leading the hunt to find the oldest R22 system in Europe.

While EU legislation prohibits the sale of virgin or recycled HCFCs from January 1, there is still a need for contractors to maintain existing refrigeration and air conditioning installations to the satisfaction of their equipment owners. For this reason, DuPont has launched a Europe-wide competition to identify the longest running, best performing and most robust R22 refrigeration or air conditioning installation.

DuPont has selected one partner from each participating country (France, Germany, Italy, Portugal and Spain) to promote the competition with a prize for each country and an overall winner. Bristol-based IDS, being the selected partner for the UK, has taken a lead in the competition and is confident that  the UK can triumph.

As well as recognising and rewarding the efforts of those refrigeration and air conditioning service professionals who have successfully maintained the R22 installations, the competition  aims to encourage and award prizes to equipment owners and contractors who convert their R22 installations to DuPont’s retrofit option MO99 (R-438A).

The prizes consist of a reimbursement to the equipment owner of the full charge of the retrofit (up to 250kg), plus an equivalent amount as free-of-charge product for the installer/contractor for future servicing.

In addition, the competition will also reward the installer responsible for servicing the longest running R22 installation in participating European countries. The winner will receive two large cylinders of Opteon XP40 (R-449A), the next-generation low-GWP refrigerant from DuPont alternative to R404A.
