MOLDOVA: Two people have been arrested in a crackdown on refrigerant smugglers in Moldova uncovered illegal HFC valued at over €30,000.
The Moldovan Prosecutor’s Office for Combating Crime and Special Cases (PCCOCS) carried out seven searches in the area of the country’s capital Chisinau, with the support of the European Anti-Fraud Office (OLAF) and the EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine (EUBAM).
The investigations targeted the criminal activity of a group of persons suspected of having acted in complicity, each with predetermined roles, for the purpose of smuggling R134a, placed for storage in a customs warehouse.
The criminal prosecution actions were initiated after checks on some goods in customs warehouse uncovered major discrepancies between the declared goods and those found. It was found that the goods were substituted in order to simulate the weight indicated in the accompanying documents, and some of them were missing altogether.
Two persons, citizens of the Republic of Moldova, aged 46 and 62, are being investigated in the case.
