10th October 2026
USA: Refrigerant manufacturer Solstice has announced plans to invest $49m in an expansion of R&D capabilities at its Buffalo, New York, facility.
Solstice says that the investment is intended to enhance its ability to develop and commercialise next-generation technologies for high-growth markets. It is supported by up to $1.4m in performance-based tax credits from New York State.
The upgrades at its Buffalo research campus will include expanded capabilities for refrigerant and thermal management research, enhanced toxicological testing to support the efficient development of new technologies and the construction of a lab for advanced energy storage materials.
The Buffalo site currently employs around 180 scientists, engineers and support staff and has been at the forefront of the company’s advanced materials innovation since the facility opened in 1955. Research conducted at the site is said to have resulted in more than 3,700 patents globally. It played a leading role in the development of multiple generations of refrigerant technologies including the latest HFO refrigerants.
