Spain becomes 150th to ratify Kigali

SPAIN: Having filed its provisional application to comply with the Kigali Amendment in January 2022, Spain has now registered its acceptance of the treaty to phase down HFC refrigerants.

Acceptance and approval are seen as identical to ratification in legal effect and are used by some states to avoid constitutional requirements to obtain parliamentary authority for consent to be bound by an international agreement.

This latest ratification brings the total number of companies to officially agree to cut the production and consumption of HFCs by more than 80% over the next 30 years.

The countries to have announced ratification, accession, acceptance, approval or succession to the Kigali Amendment in date order are:
