Top speakers at HFO conference

UK: Emerson’s US technology guru Rajan Rajendran and Japanese flammability expert Kenji Takizawa are two of the keynote speakers at the upcoming international HFO conference.

Their presentations are just two of a wide and varied range of subjects to be found in the programme for the first conference on the Application of HFO Refrigerants just released.

Organised by the Institute of Refrigeration, the conference is taking place in Birmingham from 2 to 5 September 2018.

With over 70 presentations available, this is described as an unmissable event on HFOs, providing the first critical analysis by the international refrigeration community of how HFOs are being applied in practice, the lessons that have been learned so far and the environmental and safety challenges still to be addressed.

The variety of applications covered by the speakers will include energy performance, commercial refrigeration and chillers, risk analysis, thermophysical properties, compressors and life-cycle climate performance.

Keynote speaker Kenji Takizawa is a senior researcher in the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST), Japan. His work has focused on developing evaluation methods of low flammability especially for greenhouse gas alternatives. He is a member of ISO TC86 SC8 (2005- ) and ASHRAE SSPC34 (2011- ) on standardisation of safety classification of refrigerants, and a committee member on High Pressure Gas Safety Act (2015- ), he has introduced evaluation test methods of mildly flammable refrigerants into the international standards and the national regulation.

His presentation, Challenges of the new landscape of flammability, will explore flammability issues, including testing and risk assessment.

HFO’s in use – feedback from end users is the subject of the keynote speech by Rajan Rajendran, vice president, System Innovation Center and Sustainability at Emerson Climate Technologies. He coordinates the alternate refrigerants work within Emerson and serves as the official spokesperson for Emerson on refrigerant related topics.

This presentation will explore how HFO development has impacted end users and their business. It will provide insight into the concerns, practical problems or issues that the end users have faced.

In addition to Rajendran and Takizawa, the third keynote speaker is Davinder Lail of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs who will discuss the policy contexts and implications of the F-gas phase down

In addition to a packed programme of ground-breaking presentations, delegates will get the opportunity to attend short courses and  tours.
