Work begins on expanding heat pump facility
8th July 2025
DENMARK: Johnson Controls has broken ground on an expansion of its Holme heat pump and chiller facility in Aarhus, Denmark.
Scheduled for completion by early 2026, it will add 2,300m2 of production capacity and an 1,800m2 customer and test centre that will comply with the new European Heat Pump Association testing regulation EN 14511. It is expected to create over 100 new jobs.
Customers will be able to collaborate with Johnson Controls technical teams to test high-capacity heat pumps under simulated real-world conditions.
In addition to the facility expansion, the company will modernise and upgrade existing buildings.

The Holme plant manufactures customised Sabroe-branded heat pumps and chillers from Johnson Controls, plus a full range of remanufactured, aftermarket and marine spare parts.
“This expansion highlights our ongoing commitment to meeting the growing global demand for solutions that empower businesses to create smart, healthy, sustainable buildings,” said Richard Lek, President EMEA. “Our heat pumps are helping customers meet multiple priorities at once – from ensuring uptime and performance to dramatically lowering heating costs and emissions.”
The facility has deep roots in the Aarhus region, where Thomas Sabroe established the original Sabroe business in 1897. Sabre was one of the world’s leading suppliers of industrial refrigeration systems and products when it was acquired by York International in 1999 for $407m. Just six years later, Johnson Controls bought York.
