Aquarea R290 heat pumps support senior living

GERMANY: Six Panasonic Aquarea Big M R290 air-to-water heat pumps are supplying 89 accessible apartments with heating and hot water at an old people’s residence in Leipzig.

A key feature of the installation at the ServiceWohnen am Volkspark is the patented T-CAP technology, which maintains the nominal heating output at a flow temperature of 55°C down to an outside temperature of -15°C. Together, the units provide 150kW of heating output.

ServiceWohnen am Volkspark is described as a modern residential complex for seniors, constructed using a timber hybrid system and consisting of two sections with a front and rear building. The two- and three-room apartments range in size from 41m2 to 72m2. In addition to heat pumps, the complex also incorporates photovoltaics on the roof, which provides approximately 30% of the facility’s electricity requirements.

Timber hybrid construction complements the energy concept on the building side. It reduces resource consumption and CO₂ emissions during construction while simultaneously enabling short construction times.

Of the six 25kW air-to-water heat pumps, four units supply the main building and the two others supply the annex. They are connected in cascades of four and two units respectively. Intelligent cascade control allows the heating output to be adjusted to the current demand, while the modular system simplifies maintenance.
