Carter Synergy CO2 system at Granarolo cold store

UK: Carter Synergy designed and installed the bespoke CO2 refrigeration system at the new Granarolo distribution centre in Willenhall.
The new £10m warehouse was opened in December to replace its former facility on the site which was destroyed by fire in January 2023.
Two independent CO2 refrigeration systems serve the four temperature-controlled chilled and frozen storage areas, providing additional operational flexibility and security.
Each cold room is fitted with ceiling-mounted evaporators, evenly distributed across both refrigeration systems to provide consistent cooling throughout the facility.
In addition to the two housed external CO2 packs, Carter Synergy installed two gas coolers, two de-superheaters and 16 internal evaporators.
The project’s control systems utilise RDM controls, seamlessly linking the refrigeration system and leak detection to the building management system. Integration is facilitated through BACNet communication protocols and RDM’s custom TDB software.
