Haier VRF keeps Knorr Bremse on track

HUNGARY: Haier VRF systems were chosen for a major upgrade of the heating and cooling requirements of the Budapest offices of Knorr Bremse Rail Systems.

A prominent player in the railway transport industry, Knorr Bremse Rail Systems recently undertook a significant upgrade of their main office building situated at its Helsinki Street site. The building has 12 rooms and accommodates up to 50 people.

The objective of the project was to replace the aging and unreliable HVAC system. The previous setup consisted of a scroll compressor chiller with fan coils that were over ten years old. These units faced frequent reliability issues and escalating maintenance costs, while finding spare parts was becoming increasingly difficult.

The new system installed includes a Haier MRV 5 30hp 3-pipe VRF system, composed of 19 indoor units with diverse configurations such as 4-way cassettes and medium static pressure duct-type units, ranging between 2.2 and 7.1kW in capacity. The outdoor unit is made up of two modules: one 14hp and one 16hp, with the complete system using Haier controllers.

The new Haier HVAC system was designed to handle a thermal load of approximately 70-80kW, accommodating both heating and cooling requirements under various climatic conditions. During summer, ambient temperatures can reach 35°C with 40% relative humidity, while in winter, temperatures can drop to -13°C with 90% humidity.

The indoor units were installed within the false ceiling above the offices of the utility and financial departments, ensuring an unobtrusive yet effective distribution of climate control. The outdoor units are conveniently located on the roof nearby, facilitating maintenance access while minimising noise disturbance.
