Kensa heat pumps for Paisley flats
3rd August 2025
UK: Renfrewshire Council is to replace the gas supply in two of its high-rise blocks of flats with ground-source heat pumps – the largest installation of its kind in Scotland.
Residents of the flats in Gallowhill, Paisley, will see their gas supply replaced with the renewable heating system, installed by contractor Kensa.
With the heating system at the flats nearing the end of its lifespan, a review of potential heating systems revealed ground-source heat pumps to be the most cost effective and efficient system for tenants.

The network of boreholes will absorb the low-grade heat from the ground and transfer it to the individual Kensa Shoebox heat pumps in each flat.
Work is set to start on site this month with the project expected to be completed by summer 2026.
Renfrewshire Council was awarded £1,788,382 of funding from the Scottish Government’s Scotland Heat Network Fund to support the delivery of the project.
