Marstair tops the bill with R454C
3rd May 2024UK: The latest lower GWP Marstair cellar coolers are being employed to service the bars within one of Glasgow’s most historic live music venues.
Four Marstair SMC+80 outdoor units paired with four CXE90 indoor units, running on lower GWP A2L refrigerant R454C, have been selected for the cellar which caters to four bars within the concert hall of the Glasgow University Student Union.
The new equipment is replacing a Marstair CX Cellarator system operating on R407C.
Consultant Taylor and Fraser provided the cellar dimensions and tasked distributor Kooltech with selecting an environmentally friendly system. The chosen A2L technology, installed by contractor Subcool Installations, not only ensured compliance with the University’s sustainability goals but also accommodated lengthy pipe runs of up to 80m. Its utilisation of smaller pipe sizes reduced refrigerant charges to approximately 3kg per system.
Marstair conducted an analysis of the average annual running costs, comparing the new system with the old one. Based on an electricity cost of £0.30/kWh, the A2L system is projected to save 15% in running costs, translating to £2,100 in monetary terms.
