Panasonic units keep Eurostar on track

UK: When Eurostar sought to replace the existing computer cooling units in the IT suite at its maintenance depot in London it chose Panasonic’s Tecnair P Series close control units.
Panasonic has concentrated on delivering customised close control solutions for data centres since acquiring Italian manufacturer Tecnair in 2023 as part of its acquisition of parent company Systemair.
The UPU30 and UPU50 30kW and 50kW units supplied by distributor Logicool and installed by Mac-Mech and Co met Eurostar’s requirement for a more sustainable and reliable close control cooling technology.
According to Matt Campbell, Mac-Mech’s contracts manager the previous units cooling the IT Suite were over 20 years old and no longer effective.
Vince King, Eurostar’s infrastructure engineering manager confirmed that the P Series units were quieter, more efficient and more cost effective to maintain than the previous units.
“We shall be replacing the four remaining older units onsite with Panasonic units over the next two years,” he said.
The P Series units come in two versions either upflow or downflow air discharge configurations. For this project the downflow configuration was used.
