Bitzer updates refrigerant app

GERMANY: Compressor manufacturer Bitzer has given its popular refrigerant reference tool app a complete facelift.

The Refrigerant Ruler app was first launched in 2010 and last updated in 2016. It enables users to easily and quickly assess refrigerant data on more than 100 natural and synthetic refrigerants.

Designed specifically for iOS and Android smartphones and tablets, it contains data on all common refrigerants, including key fluid properties, safety group information, GWP, ODP and information on choice of oil type for the compressor.

The tool enables accurate temperature-to-pressure conversion while allowing preselection and switching between different metric and imperial units.

The main functions include several parallel slide controls for setting pressure and temperature values, search filters and favourites, as well as the possibility to adjust all relevant parameters in the settings menu. In addition, supplementary information on refrigerants and links to relevant online documents are available.

For comparison purposes and for practical use in the service and operation of older existing systems, Bitzer also provides data on previously used refrigerants which may have been affected by usage restrictions.

In the settings menu, all important parameters for the determination of sea level as well as for temperature and pressure value can be adjusted. Other functions allow for an anonymous analysis and a change to standard settings. In addition, the app offers the possibility to set the current altitude above sea level or atmospheric pressure to correct dew and boiling points when overpressure values are entered. Depending on the configuration, the analysis for the location in question can optionally be carried out automatically via GPS or barometer if the device in use has the aforementioned sensors. Manually entering the sea level or correcting it is possible as well. In addition, temperature and pressure units can be freely selected and combined.

The app is available in English and German and can be downloaded from the stores free of charge.
