Collaboration creates high efficiency fan package

SWITZERLAND/DENMARK: Swiss motor and drive manufacturer ABB says it is collaborating with Danish fan company Novenco, to improve system-level energy efficiency across axial fan applications.
The first result of that is a complete axial fan package combining the Novenco’s ZerAx fan with ABB’s IE5 permanent magnet motor and variable speed drive. It claims a system efficiency of up to 85% in a typical air handling unit installation, outperforming EC and belt-driven fan alternatives.
Novenco’s ZerAx axial fan is said to achieve up to 92% aerodynamic efficiency at the impeller, thanks to an optimised blade design and a hub reminiscent of a jet engine.
It is claimed that, with current energy costs, many fan retrofit projects can achieve a return on investment in less than two years. The turnkey package is designed for a lifespan of 15 to 20 years.
Unlike EC fans, the modular architecture of the ZerAx package – with fan, motor, and VSD as separate components – means each element can be independently upgraded, retrofitted, or replaced as needed.
