Daikin previews commercial R290 heat pump at ISH
6th March 2025
EUROPE: Daikin is expanding its heat pump portfolio with a preview of the new EWYK-QZ modular R290 (propane) air-to-water heat pump at this month’s ISH exhibition in Frankfurt.
Offering cooling and heating capacities ranging from 100kW in a single module to 2000kW in a multi-module system, the EWYK-QZ is designed for a wide range of applications, including heating, cooling, and domestic hot water
The system is scheduled for its officially launch late this year, but visitors to ISH Frankfurt will get a first look at the prototype from 17 to 21 March.
The system can replace conventional boilers and provide hot water up to 75°C. In cooling mode, it is said to operate efficiently between -15°C and 27°C at the evaporator outlet and can function in ambient temperatures from -20°C to 46°C.
The modular concept allows multiple units to be combined and controlled as a single, unified system, making it an easy-to-implement plug-and-play solution when paired with the Daikin manifold kit and pump module.
Additional modules can be seamlessly integrated into building expansions to increase heating or cooling capacity. Each module comes in 100kW or 125kW variants, and up to four modules can form a 500kW array. Four arrays (16 modules) can be combined to create a 2000kW system managed by Daikin’s Intelligent Chiller Manager (iCM) control system.
Using propane refrigerant, Daikin has incorporated a number of safety features to ensure secure and reliable operation, including two refrigerant leak detectors – one on the refrigerant circuit and another inside the switch box. Also included is an extraction fan to quickly disperse the refrigerant in the event of a leak and a switchbox fan for added safety. In addition, visual and acoustic alarms are also incorporated.
To ensure performance, the EWYK-QZ uses inverter-controlled scroll compressors and brushless fans.
