Daikin previews low noise R290 heat pump

GERMANY: Daikin Germany has previewed the coming European launch of the new Daikin low noise Altherma 4 HS-S+ monobloc air-water heat pump on R290 refrigerant.

Due to be launched on the market this autumn, the Altherma 4 HS-S+ will be available as 3-phase devices in 8kW, 10kW, 12kW and 14kW sizes.

According to Daikin, the Altherma 4 HS-S+ will carry an A+++ energy label and operate down to -28°C outside temperature. Flow temperatures are up to 75°C.

A number of design elements have been incorporated to reduce sound levels. The slatted design of the grille on the outdoor unit not only meets visual requirements, but was specifically developed to reduce noise levels. A soundproof box with optimised insulation is also integrated into the outdoor unit. The low sound mode, which can be used to reduce sound even further, offers additional flexibility. At night, the Daikin Altherma 4 HS-S+ is said to achieve a sound pressure of less than 35dB(A).

The newly developed aluminium microchannel heat exchanger reduces the system’s refrigerant charge to around 1.3kg. The optimal heat transfer also increases the efficiency of the heat pump.

To counter the flammability of R290, Daikin has incorporated special safety measures. For the outdoor unit these include an integrated refrigerant container with tested stability for safe system transport and installation, a newly-developed R290 gas separator, a gas leak detection with combined forced ventilation, a sealed circuit board box and frost protection valves.

The wall-mounted or floor-standing indoor units have additional gas leak detection and their own gas separator.
