Shut-off ball valves for oil-free applications

DENMARK: Danfoss has announced the launch of its OFB range of oil-free shut-off ball valves engineered for oil-free chillers and heat pumps featuring Turbocor compressors.

As a service valve and anti-refrigerant liquid migration valve (when motorised) used on the suction side, OFB is said to bring a new level of protection to oil-free systems – making it particularly valuable when installed in demanding applications such as data centers and advanced HVAC installations.

Designed to elevate suction-side reliability, Danfoss says the OFB introduces a three-in-one functional design that combines a smooth suction-cone transition, a tight shut-off isolation valve, and full motorisation capability.

The suction cone offers negligible pressure drop while the motorised ball valve prevents refrigerant migration during standstill and start-up conditions, and a safe service for the system.

The new OFB series is built as a fully modular range compatible with all Danfoss Turbocor TGx and TTx compressors. With 12 inlet flange options – 3in, 4in and 5in – the valve fits new and existing systems and supports multiple global connection standards including ANSI, ASTM, DIN, and EN. Its design withstands operating temperatures from -40°C to +100°C.

To complete the system, the OFB is offered with four compact MQT electrical actuators featuring 10-second response time, brushless motor technology. A reinforced stem sealing system prevents misalignment and reduces wear.

Thanks to the valve’s low breakaway torque, OFB can be paired with small, very efficient actuators that apply low mechanical stress to the assembly. The complete valve–actuator combination is endurance-tested to 100,000 cycles.
