Stiebel Eltron launches R454C heat pump

GERMANY: Stiebel Eltron has announced the introduction of its first heat pump using lower GWP refrigerant R454C.

The manufacturer’s announcement of the adoption of R454C at last year’s ISH exhibition has its first manifestation in the form of the WPL-A Premium, a new inverter-controlled air-water heat pump.

Designed for heating and cooling as well as the production of hot water, the new model is said to be able to provide flow temperatures of up to 75ºC. It is available in heating outputs of 5kW or 7kW at an outside temperature of -7ºC.

R454C is said to be a close match to R22 based technology, and can also be used as an alternative to R404A. With a GWP 148, it is classified as an A2L “mildly flammable” gas.
