York 1234ze chiller for high-density data centres
4th February 2026
USA: Johnson Controls has announced another new chiller, this time an air-cooled magnetic bearing centrifugal machine for multi-storey data centres and AI factories.
Built around the company’s YVAM chiller technology, with use of its low GWP refrigerant R1234ze, the York YDAM is designed to overcome the complex space and site challenges in high-density data centres.
With 3.5MW of cooling, the YDAM is said to deliver up to 20% increased capacity density in a more compact footprint than competing solutions, and fits on a 53ft standard flatbed trailer.
The company claims that the YDAM’s capacity and reduced footprint could allow operators to cut the number of chillers on site by up to half.
YDAM chillers employ York magnetic bearing compressors, allowing high chilled-fluid setpoints to support 45°C warm-water cooling of the latest generation of inference and training GPUs.
