Barry Wilson 1940-2023

UK: Barry Wilson, a former director of Advanced Engineering and well-known figure in the refrigeration and air conditioning industry for over 40 years, died recently. He was 82.

A former long-term member of the Institute of Refrigeration, he was instrumental in introducing the first oil less recovery machines and pioneering the Spectroline fluorescent leak detection products in the UK.

Barry left school at 15 starting a refrigeration engineer apprenticeship. In 1975 he set up Emmergrover and Mint Conditioning. These businesses eventually became the well-known brand of Advanced Engineering where he helped build the successful world-wide chemical cleaning brand and distributor of specialist refrigeration equipment such as Promax Recovery machines and Spectroline. Advanced Engineering was acquired by Aspen in 2018.

Suffering from Parkinson’s disease, Barry Wilson retired in 2005. A celebration of his life is planned to take place in the next few weeks.
