BUS applications hit record high

UK: The number of voucher applications to the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) in September reached a record high of 4,089. 

These latest figures from the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero are 20% up on the previous month and 27% higher than  September 2024. 

Up until the end of September 2025, there were 98,722 BUS voucher applications received and a total of 85,119 vouchers issued. The vast majority of the applications (97%) were for air-source heat pumps installations.

The 3,640 vouchers issued in September was also a record, being 25% higher than the previous month and 34% higher than September 2024.

The nominal median cost of an ASHP and GSHP in the most recent quarter (2025 Q3; June to September) was £13,002 and £27,490, respectively (including the grant value). After adjusting for inflation, the average cost of an ASHP in 2025 Q3 is 11% lower than the same period in the first year of the scheme (2022 Q3; £14,530).
