Euro base “excellent news” for UK customers

UK: The announcement of a European production base in Poland is “excellent news” for UK customers of its air conditioning and heating products, says Toshiba Carrier UK MD David Dunn.

The new factory, based in Poland, is scheduled to start production later this year to supply the European and UK market.

“The European market is a key growth driver for Toshiba Carrier, and having a factory on our doorstep so close to our customers will mean more influence on ensuring our future offering meets and exceeds UK and European customer expectations and industry requirements,” Dunn said.

Toshiba previously had a split system air conditioning factory in the UK, based in Plymouth, Devon. Opened in 1990, the Plymouth factory, virtually the same size as the planned factory in Poland, closed in 2005. Pre-dating the Toshiba Carrier joint venture, which was established in 1999, the Plymouth site employed nearly 300 staff at its peak. It was forced to close with the switch to R410A, and production of those systems in Japan and Thailand.
