Heat pump groups set to merge
30th September 2025
UK: Members of the Heat Pump Association, Ground Source Heat Pump Association, and the Heat Pump Federation are reported to have voted to merge the three organisations.
Details of the merged association, its name and governance have not been revealed, but the triad insists that the unified body will truly represent the complete heat pump supply chain.
The Heat Pump Federation said that, by aligning, the groups would bring together decades of expertise, experience, advocacy, and sector leadership under one clear unified voice.
This would provide a stronger, joined-up representation to government and regulators, clearer messaging and increased visibility for low carbon heat and a single point of contact for industry collaboration and public engagement. In addition, as one body, it would provide streamlined governance and member services.
Mark Wilkins, the newly-appointed chair of the Heat Pump Association, said that the HPA was delighted to have received a unanimous mandate from its members.
“We are in a pivotal time for the UK heat pump market which has shown strong growth over recent years, and it’s time to stand together to collectively navigate the future of heating in the UK,” he said.
Emma Bohan, vice chair of the Ground Source Heat Pump Association, described the union would create one powerful voice for the heat pump sector. “For ground source, it means stronger advocacy, clearer messaging, and a seat at every table where low-carbon heating decisions are made,” she said.
“The merger of the heat pump trade bodies demonstrates the ambition that the sector has to support ministers and policy makers in pursuit of an increasingly bold approach to the electrification of heat across the domestic residential, commercial building and industrial markets,” added Bean Beanland, the director for growth and external affairs at the Heat Pump Federation.
The official launch of the unified association is expected early next year.
